Kanisiusdeki.com – Pariwisata menjadi isu penting dalam pembangunan nasional akhir-akhir ini. Hal ini memang beralasan. Secara nasional, kontribusi sektor pariwisata terhadap Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB) pada tahun 2014 telah mencapai 9% atau sebesar Rp. 946,09 triliun. Sementara devisa dari sektor pariwisata pada tahun 2014 telah mencapai Rp. 120 triliun dan kontribusi terhadap kesempatan kerja sebesar 11 juta orang (Buku Saku Kementerian Pariwisata, 2016).

Kenyataan ini mendorong Pemerintah untuk terus menggenjot sektor pariwisata. RPJMN 2015-2019 telah menjadikan pertumbuhan pariwisata sebagai salah satu strategi dari akselerasi pertumbuhan ekonomi nasional. Hal itu beralasan. Bahkan saat masa pandemic Covid-19, kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara terus mengalir. Data BPS Pusat (2021) memperlihatkan jumlah kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara bulan April 2021 sebanyak 127. 512 orang, walau menurun dari kondisi Januari 2021 yakni 137. 230 orang.

Di Kabupaten Manggarai, pengembangan sektor pariwisata menjadi salah satu fokus penting. Melalui Visi: “Manggarai yang Maju, Adil dan Berdaya saing” Pemerintah Daerah (Pemda) memandang sektor pariwisata sebagai leading sector. Dalam konteks misi memajukan ekonomi, sektor pariwisata menjadi salah satu domain utama yang didukung oleh sektor-sektor lain. Hal itu dirumuskan dalam Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Daerah (RPJMD) periode 2016-2021 dan 2022-2026.
